Each One of Us Has a Soft Dental Plaque, Which Consists of Various Bacteria
If it is not removed, in a few days it hardens and forms so called tartar that is much harder to deal with. And it is necessary, because both plaque and tartar lead to such issues, as gingivitis, periodontitis, and, later on, even to loosening and loss of teeth. Do you really need those problems?
But it is possible to get rid of plaque with correct oral hygiene. It is however almost impossible for us to perfectly do it mechanically… The best decision is regular (no less than once every six months) professional hygienic dental cleanings at the dentist.
What Does a Professional Cleaning Look Like?
A professional hygienic cleaning (or hygiene) includes a number of measures to remove teeth and gum deposits (plaque and tartar) done by a dental hygienist (a specifically trained specialist) at a dental clinic using special equipment and materials.
In the process of professional cleaning, a dental hygienist works in the area of 3.5-4 mm under a gum. Deeper cleaning of gingival pockets is done by a periodontist if indicated.
A Hygienic Cleaning at Our Clinics is Done in the Following Way:
1. A dental hygienist does an oral exam to formulate the best and most suitable strategy to remove teeth and gum deposits and points out dental issues he found that require your dentist’s participation.
First, the doctor removes tartar. At our Clinics we use the most modern equipment to remove tartar: KaVo SONICflex scaler. It generates sound vibrations that result in removing hard teeth deposits (tartar). This technology guarantees excellent quality for removing hard plaque, but, at the same time, you do not feel any discomfort during the procedure. Although the explanation sounds a bit scary, the cleaning itself at our Clinics is pain free. We do everything to avoid injuring tooth enamel.
Today at our Clinic we can offer our patients one of the best methods of professional hygienic oral cleaning – sonic dental cleaning. The modern procedure, sonic dental cleaning, is done with the help of an apparatus, which is called a sonic scaler.
Unlike an ultrasonic scaler, it ensures excellent quality of tartar removal, but, at the same time, it affects tooth tissue less, which means a more comfortable tartar removal procedure for a patient and less tooth sensitivity afterwards. Depending on the situation, a hygienist might use manual scaling instruments, which is considered top-notch in professional hygiene.
2. Then a hygienist proceeds to remove plaque and polish teeth. At this stage, we use KAVO PROPHYflex air abrasion technology.
Tooth cleaning with KAVO PROPHYflex technology helps remove both dental plaque, and pigmentation (from coffee, wine, tea, juice, smoker’s plaque, and plaque caused by the use of some dietary supplements and medicines) and polish teeth. At this stage, we use calcium carbonate or glycine instead of sodium bicarbonate. Calcium carbonate molecules are absolutely round and (unlike sodium bicarbonate) it does not irritate gums and lips and has better polishing properties.
While cleaning teeth by KAVO PROPHYflex (in Kiev you can have this procedure done at our clinic), the machine feeds a stream of special mixture of calcium carbonate, water and compressed air under pressure and, thus, removes the plaque. This solution is fed under pressure and abrasive particles easily cleanse teeth and interdental spaces even in the most hard-to-reach places. It becomes a kind of peeling for teeth. But your teeth are worth the care just like your skin!
A hygienist may use glycine as an additional polishing substance. Glycine is a very fine-dispersed powder, which ensures gentle tooth polishing and, if it is caught under a gum, it dissolves easily and does not cause clogs. Glycine is usedvery individually depending on the evaluation of a clinical situation, but in 100% of cases with implants and for pediatric hygienic cleaning.
The wholehygienic cleaning procedure at our clinic will only require 30-40 minutes. First, a dentist should remove dental plaque, then – polish enamel and clean interdental spaces. After that, a coating containing fluorine is applied to the teeth and… the procedure is successfully done!
By the way, sonic tooth cleaning and cleaning with manual scaling instruments may be used both separately, and as an addition to another procedure that is done by a periodontist. Our Kyiv clinic’s specialists recommend their patients to have a hygienic cleaning done at least once every six months (or as recommended by your dentist), depending on individual peculiarities, quality of oral care, and intensity of plaque and tartar formation.
